On assignment in Zululand
I had the opportunity of a lifetime in December 2019 to work with The Nelson Mandela Children's Fund.
The project topic was Child Survival and Development and Children's Well-Being in their environment and community.
Children usually do not have a voice in their communities on topics that are considered 'heavy'. The Nelson Mandela Children's Fund strives to give children a voice where usually they would be left unheard.
The Mtubatuba community lives on the doorstep of coal mines which encroach on the living areas and by default, the well being of the people. Children are heavily affected by environmental pollution which ultimately impacts on their survival and development and has long-term ramifications on the community as a whole.
There are hardships here. But there is raw, natural talent & beauty and hopefully, there is also hope.
